Christopher Scott Schellenberg
&
Sarah Joy Nicdao
will give their greatest gift of all..
Each other.
Charity suffereth long, and is kind;
charity envieth not;
charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own,
is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things,
hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Charity never faileth:

Where we met:C~Sarah and I actually met when her tour group came to CRBC – and, of course, Pastor tried to set me up with the wrong girl!
S~Chris and I met on his 24th birthday. Of course, I didn’t think anything of it at first- because although I had never met him before, I knew of him. Everyone knew ‘Chris Schellenberg’ at college and no no no way would I ever think he would be interested in me. Hmm, maybe because he has an incredible voice, and is amazing on the piano, a great leader.. Oh, & did I mention handsome? Well, because of different circumstances (and just God, really) we never met in the two years we were in college together. But we did end up meeting on December 02, 2007 at the office of Canyon Ridge Baptist Church in San Diego, because for wonderful and unpredictable reasons- Chris was serving there (since August) and I, in my last semester of college, traveled there with the Barnabas team- a group of students that ministered to different churches every weekend. Naturally, our pastor tried to set him up with someone else.. But in the end, ten days later, I would be done with college, back home in San Diego and beginning a relationship which would really be for “the rest of my life”!
Our first date:
C~I remember being extremely nervous! I had known Sarah for about a month; after finishing the fall semester at WCBC, she went back home to serve in CRBC (of which I had maybe a little to do with!) – and she ended up getting a job at my office (I have no idea how that happened either!). It was thursday, and I decided to ask her out to dinner on friday. I called her dad, and in 40 seconds had his permission – that must be some sort of record. We had an amazing time at Il Fornaio; I think they had to reheat our food twice during our three-hour dinner!
S~I started working at ESET with Chris in mid-December (isn’t that wonderful how that worked out?) and for the first two weeks, he was so nice to take me out to lunch everyday. I didn’t want to assume anything and tried to subdue any wishful thinking, but at the end of those two weeks he asked me out. We went to Il Fornaio, an Italian restaurant on the landing in Coronado. We sat at a table for two, by the outdoor fireplace, facing the water and downtown’s lights in the distance. The food was great, the view was breathtaking, but the company.. The company was the most wonderful part.
When he said ‘I love you’:
C~About three weeks before Sarah’s birthday, I was at the point that I knew – I KNEW that I really loved Sarah, and of course, needed to tell her! I had heard of the dinner cruise, and we actually had a great time – except for the group of seniors from a private school having their prom dance on the second floor of the boat! At any rate, it was definitely memorable – we walked to the deck on the boats return to downtown where I gave Sarah her Brighton heart necklace. It was amazing…
S~Surprise, surprise =) It was the day before my birthday, and I wasn’t expecting anything. It was Friday and we had just finished our shifts when Chris thought it would be a good idea to walk by the Star of India. (The Star of India is a ship two blocks from where we work and it has a long sidewalk that stretches right along the water with restaurants and boats scattered by it.) I thought it was a good idea- it was Friday, and at 4:00 there’s alot of traffic. So away we walked and talked. I had to use the restroom and after my stop inside a random bathroom in a restaurant, I went outside and Chris stood there with something behind his back. It was a book holding reservations to the Harbor Cruise! I had always wanted to go, and we took the two-hour dinner cruise that showed all the ‘post card’ views of San Diego. Before we docked, Chris took me to the upper deck where we looked at the stars, and he gave me a beautiful heart necklace & said, “I love you.” It took me, what? a millisecond to say it back?
Our Engagement:
C~I wanted to do something extremely memorable… Sarah and I hadn’t really mentioned the ‘m’ word at all (how did I get away with that?!?) so really, whatever we did would have been a huge surprise! I chose the Del because that was where we had some of our first ‘walks’ and some memorable conversations. And, of course, it’s gorgeous.
S~Chris and I never talked about getting married. Never. We probably mentioned something general about marriage, but never with each other. One week before he proposed, we were sitting at Seaport Village (watching ducks of course) when I asked, “Do you ever think about the future?” Okay, so my question was somewhat pointed.. I’m a girl! To which Chris replied with a smile, “Don’t worry about it, let’s take it one day at a time.” And there it was. Little did I know he was going to ask me to marry him in a week! On September 15th, after a long day of soulwinning, music practice and me- looking like a scrub.. We went to dinner at our first date place – Il Fornaio (I didn’t expect anything, since we had been there a few times), grabbed coffee (one of our favorite things), and walked on Coronado beach. After sitting in the sand and watching the sunset, we stood up to leave, only I was the only one standing. There he was, on one knee and I thought ‘If this is a joke.. This is so mean..” but thankfully it wasn’t. The way he asked me was perfect and I had no idea and I have never been so surprised in my life!
The Wedding:
C~Sarah actually picked out the chapel we will be married in. We were able to take a quick tour with her parents a few weeks ago, and I was extremely impressed – It will be a great day! http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarahsusername/1461960980/in/photostream/
S~I’ve always love the look of a chapel and after some ‘googling’ I found the perfect place – The North Chapel in Point Loma. It’s a restored Navy Chapel next to beautiful buildings/landscape. It’s also conveniently located a mile and a half away from our reception location at the Admiral Kidd. The luncheon will be on the upper ‘Skyline Room’ of the building with a panoramic view of the water and downtown San Diego. Can you tell we like the water? I can’t wait. I am marrying the most amazing man in the world.
